Description
In November 1962 certain circumstances which it would be inappropriate to inject here, intervened to impress upon me the importance of analyzing the British attitude to the West Indies over the past century and a quarter. I decided then and there to unearth, and thereafter to elaborate and expand, a study that I had initiated in 1946 when I was invited to lead a seminar discussion, in three sessions, on some aspect of history at Atlanta University in the U.S.A. I selected for my subject, “British Historical Writing and the West Indies”. With the notes added from time to time over the years, that seminar has formed the basis of this book.
